Oracle Cards for Beginners

Oracle_cards_for_beginners

I’ve been using oracle cards for over 15 years, so as you can imagine, I’ve tried out many different decks. In this article I want to share the top oracle cards for beginners or for anyone looking to just dip their toes in the water and see if it’s something they like. Generally speaking, most oracle card decks are suitable for anyone at any level, but some are definitely better if you’ve never used a deck before because of the art, words, and guidebooks provided.

I’ve already written an extensive guide on what oracle cards are, types of decks, and how to use them, so here I’ll just go straight into the best oracle decks for beginners!

The Best Oracle Cards for Beginners

Moonology

Moonology Oracle Cards

This deck is definitely in my top 5 favorite decks! The 44 cards are named after moon phases and positions in star signs, and each card shows how the energy of a moon position relates to an area of your  life, including life goals, love, healing, family, work, money and success, plus an action to take or a question to reflect on. The deck is structured into four parts to reflect the journey of the Moon through the year, with cards for New and Full Moons in each sign of the zodiac, the different phases of the lunar cycle, and Eclipses and Supermoons. The illustrations have a magical feel, with vivid purples and blues.

For example:

Balsamic Moon – A time for healing

Pulling this card suggests that the past is in the past and a bright future is beckoning. This is also a time to surrender and wait to hear guidance from the Universe.

New Moon in Taurus – Prosperity lies ahead

This card will often come up when you’re enquiring about a financial matter or when you’re doubting your self-worth. The card suggests you can have what you want – but you must believe in yourself.

Supermoon – Emotions are running high

This card suggests that the answer to whatever you’re asking is writ large like the silvery Full Moon set against the velvety night sky. If you’re wondering how successful something is going to be, the answer is very.

The author, Yasmin Boland, also has a really cool blog where she writes about astrology and other spiritual topics. She is one of the most well known astrologers and even hosts a weekly Hay House Radio show (Hay House is the most popular publisher of oracle cards).

Angel Answers

Angel Answers

A 44 card deck curated by Radleigh Valentine, the best-selling author behind Angel Tarot Cards. The illustrated cards come with a guidebook providing step-by-step instructions to help you gain clarity. I think it makes for a perfect beginner’s deck, but later on you’re more likely to use it as an accompaniment to other decks and deeper readings as it doesn’t have the symbolism that more advanced oracle decks have.

Sometimes, all you need is a straightforward answer, simple insight, like a “yes” or “no”, about that dream job, soulmate, or finding a better place to live. And this is the deck for that! Tune into the direct and loving messages of your guardian angels and ask the celestial realm to guide you!

Work Your Light

Work Your Light

This is probably my all-time favorite oracle card deck and it’s no surprise that it’s also a best selling deck. I feel like I tend to move on or “outgrow” many decks, but not this one!

I adore the hues of light pink, purple, blue etc used, along with a mix of digital art and photography. The deck was created by Rebecca Campbell and artist Danielle Noel. Rebecca is a transformational writer, speaker and pocaster. I love her blog and Instagram as well, and you’ll notice she’s been featured in many popular publications like Vogue and Marie Claire. Rebecca has published several books and another two oracle decks called The Healing Waters Oracle, Starseed Oracle (covered in more detail below) and the Rose Oracle.

The deck has 44 cards in total divided into 5 suits, each with the intention to help you connect with your intuition and live a more aligned and purpose-driven life. The five suits are:

– Confirmation cards give a quick hit of instant guidance.

– Inquiry cards help you tune in to the whispers of your soul.

– Action cards guide you on what action to take.

– Activation cards invoke healing within you.

– Transmission cards connect you with supportive energies.

There is also an excellent guidebook with the cards. I really recommend this card deck for tuning into the softer, more feminine side of yourself and for tapping into a deep soul remembering.

The Sacred Self Care Oracle

The Sacred Self Oracle

This oracle deck can either really resonate with you or not at all. The art and style of it is a bit different to the usual oracle decks. The illustrations are more whimsical and almost like they were made for a storybook. Jill Pyle, the author, and Tatiana Vedenkina, the illustrator, have done a pretty good job of combining practical inspiration with age-old wisdom.

There are 55 cards in total, each presenting an inspiring self-care idea, like mantras or journal prompts. The cards are aimed to help you with questions like “What do I need to achieve balance and centeredness today?” or “How can I attune to my body’s intuition?” The guidebook also provides inspiration and ancient wisdom to nurture the mind, body, and soul.

Overall, it’s a pretty versatile deck. You can pull a single card for daily guidance, select three or more to create a more intricate self-care ritual, or even pose a question and draw a card to unveil the self-care practices that align with your current needs.

The Prism Oracle

Prism Oracle

Why this oracle deck is incredible: it uses the language of color to tap into your intuition.

There are 45 cards, each in a different hue, with the goal of exploring the relationship between color and emotion. What’s really cool is that each card represents a specific energetic state, like Creativity, Frustration, or Reflection, and they’re matched with colors that embody that energy.

The guidebook that comes with it gives you insights on how to interpret these cards as messages from your higher self, providing seven different spreads for readings. Plus, it shows you how to infuse your surroundings with the energy of a particular card through meditation and building an altar.

Each card has modern minimalist illustrations, and they’ve got shiny metallic edges. The rainbow-colored box is also adorable, and it comes with foil stamping, making it a real keepsake.

They’re great for:

Modern mystics and folks who love their wisdom

Anyone looking to try out a new tarot or oracle deck

Color enthusiasts, artists, and designers with a mystical mindset

A gift that’s both inspiring and stylish.

The Wild Elemental Oracle

The Wild Elemental Oracle

This one is for the animal lovers! The Wild Elemental deck draws upon intuition, nature’s messages, and profound lessons from Mother Nature to unravel the layers of self-awareness and explore emotional and energetic diversity.

The whole deck of 44 cards is based on animal and mythical archetypes that focus on the four Earthly elements. The art is hand-drawn and gives a type of shamanic feeling, and the author herself, Michelle Motuzas, has been a student of shamanism for over 20 years.

The guidebook has in-depth explanations on what each creature represents and how the animals serve as your guides and what messages and lessons they bring. It’s really a great deck for connecting with totem animal spirit guides and their wisdom.

You can use the cards individually, or weave them into simple to complex spreads, and even combine them with other oracle and Tarot decks.

The Sacred Forest Oracle

Sacred Forest Oracle

This deck is based on ancient nature spirits and guardians, with the goal of unlocking the energy portals to the Sacred Forest, a realm reminiscent of the legendary Tibetan Shambhala, the Mists of Avalon, and the Australian Dreamtime. There’s 52 oracle cards with intricately layered art, along with 53 free guided meditation audio downloads that come with the deck.

The creator, Denise Linn, is a renowned transformational teacher and has guided countless individuals through meditations. Each card offers a unique invitation for connection with your inner self. For instance, the Storm Spirit encourages you to embrace chaos, while the Enchanted Fern Grotto provides a haven of refuge.

Overall, a great beginner deck for accessing your intuition and the realm beyond the physical senses.

The Starseed Oracle Deck

Starseed Oracle Cards

Another stunning and unique oracle card deck by Rebecca Campbell and Danielle Noel. This deck has 53 cards designed with symbols and colors to assist your healing journey and unlock your soul’s gifts. The box is super cool, when you remove the lid, a triangle shape is revealed. The triangle is meant to represent the connection between the unlimited Universe and the groundedness of Earth.

You can use the box in an interactive way during your readings, by placing the lid upside down and resting the cards within the v-shape! The guidebook includes a Starseed call to action for each card to help you unlock your soul gifts.

I personally love picking one card from the deck either for inspiration or to receive guidance to a question. Highly recommend this beautiful card deck and box! 😉

Where to buy oracle deck cards

There’s many online and physical stores that sell oracle cards. You can access a much bigger variety of decks online, but you can find some real gems in physical stores that are dedicated to spiritual stuff. You can check out places like Amazon, Etsy, and bookstores for cool oracle cards. I might also add some really unique ones for sale on here too, so stay tuned!
